In the Directors Chair: on-stage interview with Amir Bar-Lev
|
One on one interview to be conducted by SHOOT Editor, Bob Goldrich. Always a fun & inspiring session, we are thrilled to have Amir in the director's chair this year! His most recent film, "Long Strange Trip" (Amazon), a four-hour epic on the Grateful Dead, was called "one of the most engrossing rock docs ever made" by the Los Angeles Times, made the Oscar shortlist, earned a Best Director nomination from the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, and was nominated for a Best Music Film Grammy. Also in the music space, Bar-Lev
directed the film "12.12.12" about the concert for Hurricane Sandy relief, and "Re:Generation" for Hyundai and the Grammy Awards which won a Cannes Bronze Lion. "12.12.12" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival; the concert featured performances by The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roger Waters and Bruce Springsteen, among others. Bar-Lev has twice been nominated for the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Documentary Prize--for "My Kid Could Paint That" in 2007, and "The Tillman Story" in 2010. "The Tillman Story" also won an Emmy Award. Bar-Lev’s "Happy Valley"--which shed light on the Penn State child abuse scandal--debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was called "mesmerizing" by the New Yorker and "gripping" by Variety. Bar-Lev also directs commercials and branded content through Chelsea Pictures. His spot credits include Call of Duty Endowment’s "The Honest Truth," and this year’s Super Bowl ad, Verizon’s "Answering The Call," which
won a pair of ANDY Awards. We'll delve into his background, career challenges, film and commercial project backstories and advice for up-and-coming directors
